SCOPE
AS SAN MATEO IS THE CLIENT’S LARGEST OFFICE AND ENGINEERING HUB, THEY REQUESTED FULL END-TO-END SERVICES FROM BUREAU BRAUN. WE LED THE CLIENT LEADERSHIP TEAM THROUGH SEVERAL VISIONING EXERCISES AND DISTRIBUTED AN OFFICE-WIDE SURVEY AMONG ALL END-USERS.
WITH THIS DATA, BUREAU BRAUN DEVELOPED A PROGRAM AND TEST-FIT, AND ONCE APPROVED BY THE CLIENT, A DESIGN CONCEPT WAS DEVELOPED, TAKING FROM THE LOCAL CONTEXT. WE USED EXTENSIVE VIRTUAL-REALITY RENDERING TO GAIN DESIGN APPROVALS FROM THE CLIENT AND TO CATCH ANY COORDINATION ISSUES ALONG THE WAY.
BUREAU BRAUN MANAGED FF&E SELECTION AND PROCUREMENT, WORKING WITH KEY VENDORS TO ENSURE THE PROJECT TIMELINE, SIX WEEKS, WAS HIT.
SOLUTION
A DENSIFIED OPEN WORKPLACE, ALLOWING FOR SEAMLESS CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION. EMBEDDED IN THE OPEN WORK AREA ARE THREE COLLABORATION AREAS, EQUIPPED WITH A/V, OF THREE VARYING MODES: LOUNGE, TABLE-HEIGHT, AND HI-TOP.
AT THE PERIMETER OF THE OPEN WORK AREA, THERE ARE THREE OPEN BOOTHS AND FOUR HUDDLES, ESSENTIAL TO THE CLIENT’S NEED FOR AT LEAST EIGHT VIDEO-CONFERENCE-CAPABLE ROOMS.
FOR THE MATERIAL PALETTE, BUREAU BRAUN LOOKED TO CALIFORNIA’S NATIONAL PARKS AS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE ”CALIFORNIA CAMP” CONCEPT.
THE CLIENT AND STAFF HAVE HERALDED THE PROJECT AS “TRANSFORMATIONAL” FOR THE WAY THEY WORK.
VISIONING
BUREAU BRAUN COMPLETED TWO VISIONING WORKSHOPS WITH THE CLIENT LEADERSHIP TEAM AS WELL AS AN OFFICE-WIDE SURVEY TO HELP FRAME THE PROBLEM STATEMENT:
SINCE COLLABORATION IN NEAR PROXIMITY TO DESKING, BOTH DIGITAL AND ANALOG, IS CRITICAL TO EVERY BUSINESS UNIT, THEN THE SAN MATEO OFFICE SHOULD CREATE HIGHLY-CONVENIENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR DIFFERENT MODES OF COLLABORATION IN CLOSEST PROXIMITY TO THE OPEN WORK AREA.

CALIFORNIA’S CLIMATE ENCOURAGES LIFE (AND WORK) OUTDOORS. WE BROUGHT THE BEST OF OUTDOOR, CALIFORNIA LIVING INDOORS TO THE CLIENT’S WORKPLACE, SO THAT WHEN IT WASN’T A PERFECT 68 DEGREES OUTSIDE, THE CLIENT FELT THE BIOPHILIC BENEFITS WHILE INSIDE.
